The Debt Help Counselors (DHC) was founded in 1986 by Edward Woolworth and Mark Salisbury after each had worked briefly for the Credit Counseling Corporation. This behind-the-scenes experience led them to one mutual conclusion - there had to be a better way. And after almost a year of discussion with credit card companies, debt industry personnel and banks, the Debt Help Counselors solution was born. The solution centered around the concept that debt could be negotiated with only the consumer in mind - as opposed to the two-sided payment bias of the CCC - and that the best deal could be obtained with the negotiator working as an advocate. The concept worked.

Since then, DHC has assisted clients from around the country with their debt levels, saving consumers over $1 billion in principal and potential interest payments. DHC's success comes from a strict adherence to our mission statement:

"To develop fair, effective debt solutions as an advocate for the consumer and the consumer alone."
